Our cities are constantly growing and developing. As a result, the way we commute day to day has changed. If you live in the city, perhaps it no longer makes sense to own a pickup truck or SUV. You may have thought of downsizing your vehicle, but you still need the space a larger vehicle offers. So, is there a compromise? Perhaps, but you shouldn’t have to compromise. You should get everything you need in one.
Hyundai offers 2 models that give you the best of both worlds: a size that’s perfect for city living with the cargo space you need. The 2020 Hyundai Kona and the all-new 2020 Hyundai Venue are great choices to consider for your next purchase. Both the Kona and the Venue are compact SUVs that offer style, space and the latest technology. But which one is best for you?
2020 Hyundai Venue
The Venue’s sleek, compact design makes maneuvering through city streets a breeze. This vehicle makes a great first impression with its distinct wraparound LED headlights, designed to cast a longer and stronger beam of light – perfect for increased visibility. The Venue’s body is contoured with sleek and modern accents. It sits on 17” wheels and showcases a funky spoke rim pattern. You’re sure to arrive in style, wherever you’re headed. You can make your Venue truly reflect your style by opting for one of 8 available trendy paint colours or even one of 8 additional 2-tone colours. You’re sure to get more than just functionality out of this compact SUV – you’ll also get fun.
You’ll love all the features you’ll find inside the Venue. From the push-button start function to the 8” touchscreen display, the interior is designed for the highest level of driver comfort and functionality. Heated front seats provide maximum comfort for those especially chilly months of the year, and the automatic temperature control intuitively adjusts the cabin temperature and airflow to provide the most comfortable climate. For added warmth, heated steering wheel is also available. And when the warm weather hits, let the sunshine in with the one-touch power sunroof.
Interior vehicle space is thoughtfully designed to maximize cargo capability. With 60/40 split rear seats, you’ll have enough room to carry larger items with you on the go. You’ll also have a rear shelf in the trunk, which can be tucked away easily when you don’t need it. For taller items, the trunk floor can lower and adjust for the perfect fit.
The Venue utilizes a Smartstream G1.6L engine and provides up to 121 horsepower. Whether you’re driving to work or to a weekend away, the Venue will get you there efficiently. You’ll also have the option of a 6-speed manual transmission or available Smartstream Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT). IVT is designed to replicate the natural acceleration of a conventional automatic transmission. But with its intelligent technology, it delivers power to parts of the vehicle that need it most, and it conserves energy where power is not needed.
The Venue is also equipped with Drive Mode Select. Providing the best control and traction, Drive Mode Select lets you conquer any road and weather condition. There’s even a snow mode option. This mode can distinguish between packed and deep snow conditions and adjust accordingly for optimal grip.

2020 Hyundai Kona
The 2020 Kona is another great choice for city living. In comparison to the Venue, there are some key differences to note in its aesthetic and capability.
While the Venue is more structured in its exterior design, the Kona features sleek, smooth and curved contouring. The same design style can be found in the Kona’s LED headlights, taillights and running daytime lights. You’ll also find more body cladding along the side profile and rear bumper, giving the Kona an overall sportier look. Depending on the Kona model you choose, wheel size varies from 16” to 18”. And you’ll be able to style your ride with 8 colour options to choose from.
You can further customize your ride with the available interior colour package, which lets you choose a trim accent in either red, lime green or orange. And you’ll find the same great comfort and convenience features that you can find in the Venue, including proximity key with push button start, standard front heated seats and steering wheel, and one-touch power sunroof.
You’ll also have 60/40 split rear seating to maximize interior cargo space, however, the Kona does not include an adjustable trunk floor.
But the Kona does pack more punch under the hood. It comes standard with a 2.0L engine that delivers 147 horsepower and 132 lb.-ft. of torque. For even more power, you can opt for the available 1.6L turbocharged engine, delivering 175 horsepower and takes you from 0-100 in under 8 seconds. Although the Kona is not available with a manual transmission, its 6-speed automatic transmission features Shiftronic: a manual mode option for performance and fuel economy.
The Kona is also available with all-wheel drive to improve traction on any terrain, and it comes standard with Drive Mode Select.
