Tips to Help You Plan Your Canada Day
There is no better celebration than Canada’s own birthday! Mississauga’s Canada Day 2019 festivities are going to be spectacular with something for everyone to do! Have you made plans yet for Mississauga Canada Day 2019? We’ve put together a Canada Day celebration guide to help kick start your planning.
Streetsville Village Square Celebration
Party central for Mississauga Canada Day 2019 will be at the Streetsville Village Square. Once again this year, the Streetsville BIA is hosting the annual Streetsville Canada Day celebration.
In the Streetsville Village Square, things will run from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with face painting and balloon animals provided by the Streetsville Legion Branch 139. There will also be a wide variety of arts and crafts for the whole family to enjoy along with good, old-fashioned games for the whole family to play.
In the mood for live entertainment on your Mississauga Canada Day 2019? Visit the main stage in the square for a variety of live entertainment from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. At 7:00 p.m. there will be an official cake cutting ceremony because every great party needs a birthday cake, generously provided by the Streetsville Lions Club.
At 9:00 p.m., there will be a flag raising ceremony followed by a Pipes & Drum march to cap off the Streetsville Village Square celebration scheduled for 9:30 p.m. The walking parade will make its way over to Streetsville Memorial Park for a fireworks display.
Streetsville Memorial Park
Although the sun sets, there is no need to end the party! At 10:00 p.m. there will be a fireworks extravaganza sponsored by RBC in the Streetsville Memorial Park that will delight and entertain the whole family. This isn’t just any fireworks display. It’s all “Canadiana” in honour of Canada’s birthday with the fireworks show set to a Tragically Hip playlist, one of Canada’s most famous bands ever!
What is Open and Closed on Mississauga Canada Day 2019
Most retail stores (including grocery, pharmacy, LCBO and Beer Stores) are closed on Canada Day as it is a statutory holiday. If you are really itching for some retail therapy, Mississauga’s Square One Mall will be open with holiday hours between 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
There are other celebrations all over Mississauga for the day. You can travel around to nearby parks and locations for more Canada Day fun.
There is a Canada Day party happening in Celebration Square starting at around 2:00 p.m. If you are a fan of live music, this is a must-see. Well-known Canadian musicians will be taking the stage throughout the day, including headliner Marianas Trench, Logan Staats, country duo Leaving Thomas and Sickick.
Like many events on Mississauga Canada Day, this one is free and fun for the whole family. The day concludes with an impressive firework show at around 10:00 p.m. Bring your lawn chair or blanket and watch the night sky illuminate.
Paint the Town Red in Port Credit on Canada Day
Another fun Mississauga area Canada Day event is the Paint the Town Red on Canada Day in Port Credit. The highlight of this event is the parade. The Hazel McCallion Canada Day Parade begins at 11:00 a.m. and follows a route along Lakeshore Rd. to Wenonah Rd.
After the parade and the cake-cutting ceremony, you are welcome to try some cake! The kids will have a blast all afternoon at Memorial Park playing on the inflatables. There will also be superheroes and a magic show. The beer tent is in Memorial Park as well, which will be open from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
There will be live music throughout the day with tribute bands honouring Neil Young, The Tragically Hip, The Eagles and Tom Petty. There is something for everyone!
Canada Day Together Festival
Consider attending the 4th annual Canada Day Together Festival at Churchill Meadows Community Commons. There is a great lineup of live music which will get underway at 2:00 p.m. The headliner is Victoria Duffield along with other notable entertainers including Saveria, Southdowns and Elyse Saunders.
There is fun to be had for all ages. Get your gaming on in the RV gaming room; play paintball or do the phone scavenger hunt. You can get your face painted; check out the pony rides or petting zoo or go crazy on the bouncy castles. At dusk, the fireworks begin for all.
No matter what you’ve got planned for Mississauga Canada Day 2019, it will be an enjoyable experience for everyone!
